I was born in Yeovil in 1980 and I could see the floodlights of the old Huish
from my back garden. Absence makes the heart grow fonder and that was certainly
the case whilst spending my childhood at boarding school. I’ve continued
to be an ‘Exile’ ever since.
I spent 3 years getting a Politics degree at Manchester Metropolitan University
in order to get a proper job. Whilst I probably didn’t need my degree
for it I was lucky enough to work at the best bookshop in the world, Sportspages
for nearly 3 years. Having a passion for football and reading meant I couldn’t
have wished to work in a better place. Sadly the shops in Manchester and London
are now consigned to the history books but it was great while it lasted.
Influenced by the fanzines and books around me at work I co-founded the Yeovil
Town fanzine ON TO VICTORY in May 2002. Aside from a brief break I’ve
been the Editor for most of the 27 issues. I’ve also done the odd interview
and article for BBC Somerset in the last couple of seasons.
I moved to the big smoke in 2005 and realised I wasn’t the only Yeovil
fan in the city so I co-founded the Capital Glovers (www.capitalglovers.com)
in October 2006. The supporters group for Yeovil Town based in London and the
South-East has a mailing list of over 60 people and 2 5-a-side teams that play
every week.
I’ve put the proper job off for long enough now, but just before I join
the masses, I’m going to combine by love for Yeovil Town and writing
by writing this book.
